Over 50s running in NorthamptonSome of our
fastest are over 60.

Running doesn't slow down at 50. At Northampton Road Runners, some of our most consistent racers, longest marathon streaks and best age-graded parkrun performances belong to members in their fifties, sixties and seventies. Masters running is thriving here — and if you're picking up running again in later life, this is the club for you.

A pace group for every ability, at every age

Every Wednesday club night has multiple pace groups running from the University of Northampton, Waterside Campus. That's true for everyone — but it especially matters if you're an older runner returning after a knee replacement, a hip op, or a decade or two away from the sport. There's a group at your pace, and the group will wait if you need to. Nobody at NRR runs alone.

The over-50s challenge

Every year the club runs an over-50s challenge — a friendly points-based competition just for members aged 50 and up. It's designed so consistency counts as much as speed: turn up, race often, encourage others, and you'll be in the running. Recent years have seen the trophy go to runners in their sixties and seventies who out-scored the entire fleet on pure grit and turnout.

It's a great way to stay motivated year-round — and to meet a peer group of runners who understand what it takes to keep going when the body starts asking harder questions. Details of each year's challenge are shared in the WhatsApp group and on the events page.
